Let’s face it, if you are getting ready to put your house up for sale you want to get the biggest bang for your buck . Before listing your home to the public, there are a few things to consider before remodeling.
1. First come up with a plan. Owners need to consider simple cosmetics, such as refinishing your hardwoods , painting and updating fixtures and lighting.
These minor updating tricks are inexpensive, and give a home the updated look.
2. Financing the project. Sit down establish a realistic budget for updating. Try to
establish a timeline for each project, and shop around for a licensed and bonded contractor that can help you complete your project within your budgeted allowance .
Consider home improvements that bring significant value to your home. (ie, adding
granite to the kitchen, updating the kitchen appliances, water saving plumbing
fixtures.. Etc ) finishing the basement can increase the square footage . This is a
good project to consider. Adding a swimming pool or outdoor patio, is not such a
good idea.
3. Homeowners insurance & homeowner association . Do you have adequate
homeowners insurance to cover the contractor and his heavy machinery ? Did you get
the proper approval from the homeowners association before starting? Is the
contractor properly licensed and insured?
